Real terrain · GIS & satellite

Draw on the map. Lengths and elevations capture themselves.

Place your nodes and pipes straight onto real satellite imagery of your town. At every point, ORCANET reads the ground elevation; on every pipe, it measures the real length along the route, slope included.

In short — In ORCANET, a network is drawn directly on satellite imagery: each pipe gets its real length and each node the ground elevation, with no prior topographic survey.

Example: every pipe carries its real length and every node its elevation — measured automatically from the layout you draw on the map.

Zero manual entry, zero rough surveying: your model matches the field from the very first stroke. The two figures that make or break a study — lengths and elevations — are acquired automatically, live from the map.

Real lengths, automatic

Every pipe is measured geodesically (Haversine) along its full route, vertices included, with 3D slope correction. No length to enter.

Elevations captured on their own

Ground elevation is read automatically at every node placed on the map — the levels that drive your pressures, with no topographic survey.

Satellite, street or terrain basemap

Search for a town, set the scale and draw on a real basemap. The same symbols appear on the map and in the schematic.

Schematic ↔ map, lossless

Fixed, bijective georeferencing: switch between schematic and map as often as you like, every object stays exactly in place.

Results shown on the terrain

Pressures, velocities and head losses read directly along the real pipes, with the same decimals as the schematic.

Deliverables that speak for themselves

Labels and computed values overlaid on a real-world map background — ready to drop into reports and presentations, and clear to decision-makers and technicians alike.

Frequently asked questions

The questions we get asked

How do I get node elevations without a topographic survey?

By drawing the network on ORCANET's satellite map: each node you place receives the ground elevation at that spot, and each pipe its real length, terrain included. For a preliminary study, this saves days of data entry; surveyed elevations can still be edited node by node.

Can I draw a network over a scanned plan?

Yes. A scanned plan image is placed as a background, scaled and set to the opacity you want; you then draw the network on top of it. Scanned backgrounds are available in every plan, including the free account.
